Let's Talk Baby Oil
This blog has come about because we've had so many questions and messages coming through about Baby Oil. I am going to begin by addressing the three Ws: Why, When and Where.
Why should you be using Baby Oil? It seems like a simple enough question, but I know that before having children I had no idea and I think we all presume that when baby arrives, we will suddenly have all the answers… unfortunately it doesn’t quite work like that. Simply put, Baby Oil’s original purpose was to keep baby’s skin soft and supple. However, it is so much more than that; Dry skin is caused by a loss of water in the upper layer of the skin and Baby Oil locks in essential moisture, keeping skin hydrated. To protect little one’s skin from dryness, is therefore, a hugely valued part of daily care.
When should you be using Baby Oil? The most ideal time is after coming out of the bath, then towel dry and seal in the moisture using soothing strokes to keep skin soft and smooth. It will help calm and relax, whilst encouraging Mother and Baby bonding as you practise skin-to-skin and help baby development through touch and expression. It is also a lovely one for Daddy to get involved in, enjoying the tenderness and tickles that will result in the most beautiful smiles and giggles.
Where should I be using Baby Oil? This answer is a little more complicated as it depends on the focus. Essentially, all over the body; before you use any product, always do a patch test. Apply a little to the skin and leave it for a few hours to make sure there is no reaction. Once you are comfortable, pour some oil into your hands, rub your hands together to warm and gently massage into the baby’s skin starting with the back and legs and then moving on to other areas. It can be used on the face, BUT, be very careful not to get in eyes, nose and mouth. Baby Oil is ideal for dry and irritated skin so when using, make sure to concentrate on those areas.
Why did we not include our signature fragrance in our Baby Oil? There is a lot of debate about Fragrance in Baby Oil and the consensus is, without is better. One of baby’s strongest senses is smell and touch, baby massage is a time for it to experience both of those whilst bonding with a parent, you don’t want anything to distract that special time and a fragrance could do exactly that. We also wanted the product to be 100% natural. However, if are really missing that signature scent you could use our Baby Oil under our Moisturiser for an extra dose of hydration and fragrant finish.
Why our Baby Oil? Very good question, especially as there are so many great ones on the market. Our products are suitable for new-borns, so you know that when we are creating our products we do so with the most sensitive skin in mind, making sure that the ingredients are packed full of vitamins, nutrients and benefits ideal for your little ones. At every step we want to make sure you feel reassured and so we have had them paediatrician approved, dermatologically tested, clinically tested and proven. There are no nasties in our ingredients that could harm or irritate you skin. Simply created from our family to yours.
Can you use Baby Oil too? Of course, Mama deserves a treat too! In fact, there are so many amazing benefits for you using it that I will write another blog in the coming weeks on this specifically… watch this space.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and remember, any questions, please let us know, any problems please let us help solve them. You and your little one are always our number one priority and we always want to make sure that you are getting to experience the best bathtime care!
